Carnival Miracle July 4 Cruise Review – Part Three: The Ports

By Dave | July 15, 2008

This part of the review will probably be short because I don’t have a lot to say about the ports. We didn’t really do much at the ports, which is why there’s not much to say about them.

First Stop: San Juan, Puerto Rico

San Juan was nice I guess. We just shopped a little. I’m not into shopping, so for me this was “just another” Caribbean port. Nothing special about it. I’m sure there is plenty of interesting stuff about this port: the culture, the entertainment (especially at night), etc. But we didn’t get into any of that. We just walked around for a little.

St. ThomasSecond Stop: St. Thomas, U.S.V.I.

Another shopping island, and I didn’t even get off the ship for this one since there’s really nothing for me to do there and I’ve been there before. At least at San Juan I had never been there before, except for embarking on the Destiny in 2005.

Third Stop: Grand Turk

Our original third stop was supposed to be Tortola, but it was changed to Grand Turk due to “propulsion problems.” We didn’t even find out until we boarded the ship. To me it didn’t make a difference because I hadn’t been to either place. And from what I’ve heard, Grand Turk is better than Tortola. Anyway, Grand Turk was probably the nicest stop in my opinion. Right outside of the pier is a shopping area with a bunch of local vendors. There is also a Margaritaville with a nice pool area. Also right outside the pier are a couple beaches. This port was nice because everything was literally right next to the ship. There was no need to walk long distances to get to everything. I thought Grand Turk was a nice little stop. I wouldn’t mind going back there. To be honest, I didn’t even mind the shopping there.

So the ports really weren’t for me, but I don’t mind. It could probably be assumed that the Eastern Caribbean isn’t for me. This part of the Caribbean seems to be all about the beaches and shopping. I don’t like either. I’m more of an exotic person, into hiking, biking, and all that fun stuff. But hey, a cruise is a cruise! I’ll go anywhere.

More tomorrow…
