Carnival Miracle July 4 Cruise Review - Part Seven: The VIP Treatment
By Dave | July 23, 2008
As I’m sure I’ve mentioned before, this was my first Carnival cruise as a Platinum member. We were told there were only twelve parties onboard (including us) that had Platinum status. I will talk about some of the perks we enjoyed as Platinum guests:
- VIP Check-in: Probably one of the best perks. We were able to go to the front of the check-in line immediately, and were waited on right away. After we checked in and received our sail and sign cards, we were seated in the VIP seating area. NYC doesn’t have a separate VIP room, but our seating was roped off. Anyway, after everyone checked in, and after the wedding parties boarded, we were the first to go to the embarkation line. This was great. The lines for embarkation were so long already, so it was nice not to have to wait in them. We were then some of the very first people onboard. After we got onboard, our luggage was delivered very quickly. I’m sure this had something to do with the VIP tags. Another great perk.
- Concierge Customer Service Desk: At the purser’s desk, we had our own (usually empty) Platinum line. We utilized this a lot in the beginning because my dad received a gold card instead of a platinum one. It was nice because if there was a line, first of all we didn’t have to wait. And as soon as one of the agents was free, they came to us first. Definitely another great perk.
- Petit Fours and Canapés: We had petit fours delivered to our room one night after dinner. They were good. We also had canapés delivered one day before dinner. They were good as well.
- Free Slot Tournament Entry: This was nice, especially considering we lost. We were each given one complementary entry into the slot tournament ($20 each). It was fun; this was my first slot tournament. In this tournament, we had to get as many credits as possible in a set amount of time. I preferred the format that was on the Legend last year though. In that tournament, you could take as long as you want. You were given a set amount of spins and had to get the most credits out of those spins. Definitely seems more enjoyable. Oh well. It was free for me, so I’ll stop complaining.
- Special Carnival Items: We now have five coffee thermoses… We were going to trade them in for something else but we forgot.
- VIP Disembarkation: I already covered this one in Part Six of the review.
- Free Wash and Fold: This was good for my mom since she didn’t have to do laundry as much, and it was free so we saved a couple bucks as well.
Those were the perks we received. They were all very nice and well worth the wait. (This was thirteen years in the making since our first Carnival cruise.)
