Carnival Miracle July 4 Cruise Review – Part Four: The Staff
By Dave | July 16, 2008
First I will talk about the staff in general. After that, there are a few people I’d like to mention specifically.
The staff on the Miracle were very nice. People often complain about rude or unhelpful crew on their cruises. Not the case on our cruise! Every crew member we came in contact with was very friendly. Well, there was the guitar playing guy who said he’d take requests and then turned every single request down, but I guess he’s just not very good. Other than him, any crew member we asked a favor of would do their best to accomodate us.
Now on to the people I’d like to mention. First and most importantly, I’d like to thank our room steward, Iwayan, for doing an amazing job. He was, by far, the best room steward we’ve ever had. When he first met us on day one, he greeted us by name and then introduced himself. We didn’t even have to tell him our names; he already knew! Our room was made up very nicely twice per day: once at breakfast and once at dinner. Each night, we were greeted by a towel animal. Whenever he would see us in the hall, he’d greet us by name, ask us how we were, remind us he was available if we ever needed anything, and wished us a good time. He always had a smile on his face as well. Like I said, he was the best room steward we’ve ever had. Needless to say, he got an extra nice tip at the end.
Our wait staff, whose names, get this, were both also Iwayan, were very quick. They didn’t talk much, and I don’t recall them even asking our names, but what they lacked in the conversation department they made up for in the service department. They would walk by often to make sure our glasses were full of water and that we weren’t sitting with empty plates on the table. Our food was always out very quickly. We were always some of the first out of the dining room. There were no long pauses in between courses, which was very nice. These two did a very good job. If only they talked a little more… If that were the case, they would have been our best waiters ever as well. I could tell they were trying though. For example, they’d ask a question about the meal or the cruise, but they wouldn’t follow up with anything else. It’s like they were shy or something, which I can sympathize with.
Finally, our assistant cruise director, Josh (aka Big Sexy) was great. To be honest, I don’t even remember any of our cruise directors from cruises past. But I remember our assistant cruise director from this cruise, and will probably remember him for a long time. He was extremely outgoing and had a great personality. Everyone liked him, and he definitely brought the cruise to a whole new level. The cruise director, Brent, was average at best. He tried to be funny, but he really just didn’t have it in him. Josh, on the other hand, could make you laugh just watching him talk. He was that kind of person. From what I heard, he has been offered a permanent cruise director position starting next year. That should be awesome. He will be temporarily cruise director for the next couple weeks on the Miracle while Brent is on vacation. Those will be some fun cruises for sure.
Those are all the people I have to mention specifically. As I said earlier, the staff on this ship were amazing.
There should probably be at least one more part to this review…
