“Welcome Back!”
By Dave | July 2, 2008
One of the many great things about cruising is, well, cruising again! This is a great thing on two levels. First of all, it’s always great to cruise again. But more importantly, when you cruise more than once on a cruise line, you become a past guest and are usually entitled to added benefits.
All the cruise lines run their past guest programs differently. Some go solely based on the number of cruises. Others also base their program on number of days sailed. The level requirements are different as well. For example, Carnival has Gold member status at only your second cruise. You then reach Platinum on your tenth cruise. On NCL, you reach Bronze on your second cruise, Silver on your 6th cruise, Gold on your tenth cruise, and Platinum on your fifteenth cruise.
So what can you usually expect as a past guest? Well, these perks vary from line to line. Some lines offer some that others don’t. Some offer them sooner/later than others. See your specific cruise line’s website for details on their past guest program.
- Members-only magazine
- Past guest cocktail parties
- Coupon booklets for onboard
- Free internet minutes
- VIP check-in, disembarkation
- Priority tendering
- Free upgrades, when available
- Priority shore excursion booking
- Priority waiting lists
- Free food delivered to your cabin
- Great service with a flash of your high-level past guest card
- Special past-guest only reunion cruises (with loads of extras onboard)
- Some sort of commemorative pin
- Past-guest pricing on future cruises
- Members-only service desk
- Free gifts delivered to your stateroom
- Free cruises on milestone (50th, 100th, etc.) cruises
- Members-only lounges
There’s so much more you might have the chance to get as a past guest. Remember, each line varies dramatically in its past guest program. So I urge you to see your cruise line’s website for their past guest policy.
