Fuel Supplements on the Rise Again
By Dave | June 5, 2008
For the second time, Carnival Corp yesterday has raised its fuel supplement charge from $7 per person per day to $9 per person per day (third and fourth guest increases went from $2 to $4). This new price will apply to all bookings made on or after June 12, and will affect the following cruise lines: Carnival, Princess, Holland America, Costa, Cunard, and Seabourn. Their last fuel supplement increase was made on April 9, which raised the charge from $5 to $7 for all bookings made after April 21.
Following Carnival Corp’s lead, Norweigan Cruise Line today also announced another fuel supplement increase. NCL’s fuel supplement is a little more costly: $11 per person per day, and $5 per person per day for 3rd and 4th guests. Their increase will take effect on June 20.
I would imagine Royal Caribbean/Celebrity will follow suit as well in the coming days, as well as any other major cruise lines. With fuel prices going up so high, it seems the cruise lines have no other choice but to increase their fuel supplements. Eventually, this will probably start affecting the average cruiser. I’m sure we’ll keep cruising though. How about you?
