Carnival Pride to Sail out of Baltimore

By Dave | June 6, 2008

Carnival PrideCarnival announced yesterday that starting in September ’09, their 88,500 ton Carnival Pride will begin sailing out of Baltimore for two alternating seven night itineraries. The Pride will sail to the ”Exotic Eastern Caribbean”, stopping in ports like Half Moon Cay, Grand Turk, and Bahamas, among others.

I find this news exciting, as we now have another kind-of-local port to choose from with Carnival. Previously (currently I should say) the only real option is NYC, which is where we’re leaving from in a month. I’m fairly sure that, if the price is right, next year we will be taking a cruise out of Baltimore. Time will tell.

Now if only we could start having more cruises out of Philadelphia. That would really be something. I think right now NCL sails the Majesty out of Philadelphia, but that’s about it. Several years ago, we took a Celebrity ship out of Philadelphia to Bermuda, but I don’t think Celebrity sails out of Philadelphia anymore. Please correct me if I’m wrong.  The other problem is that it seems only smaller ships (<50,000 tons) sail out of Philadelphia at the moment. If we could get a ship like the Pride (or even a Fantasy-class ship) to sail out of Philadelphia, that would be awesome. (For some reason, I have a feeling I’ve talked about this before. I’ll have to look.)

What are your thoughts on this new home port for the Pride?
