Royal Caribbean announced a host of new features yesterday for its upcoming Oasis of the Seas. We already knew there would be a central park “neighborhood” as well as some other new features for this innovative class of ships. But announced yesterday were some more exciting features:

  • A boardwalk neighborhood. There will be everything from a tattoo parlor to a carousel! Some other cool features will include more boardwalk-like shops, Johnny Rockets, as well as two gigantic rock climbing walls. (I’d assume, based on the prototypes of Oasis, that the boardwalk will probably connect the two rock climbing walls.)
  • A zip line. This will be located above the boardwalk. Talk about a thrill! Imagine riding down a zipline above the ocean…
  • A two-level Royal Promenade. This will include several eateries, lounges, and other amenities. Also returning will be the promenade-view staterooms, 18 of them.
  • AquaTheater. This will basically be a watershow in the back of the ship. From what I’ve read, I believe it will be a pool area during the day where you can swim and even take scuba lessons, and at night it will turn into a water/light show. There will also be staterooms made specifically for viewing this show, with their own private viewing areas.
  • New accomodations. Probably the most exciting addition to the stateroom categories would be the two-level suites. These will have a living area downstairs and upstairs will be the bedroom.

Overall it seems like it is going to be the most innovative ship to date. I’d imagine cruises on the Oasis will be quite expensive in the beginning, so it will probably be a long while before I’d get to sail on her, but this is definitely one ship I’d like to go on, even if just to say I went on it, or so I could see these things first-hand. It’s hard to believe we could find these things on a ship. It almost doesn’t seem real when you read some of the descriptions. What do you think of these new features? (By the way, there are still more to come!)
